Foca FAQ

How Does Foca Use My Data

Foca uses advance computer vision algorithms to determine your focus levels in order to provide you an effective online learning experience. In order to achieve this, we need to be able to access your camera. All of the computer vision runs locally on your machine and none of your camera data ever leaves your computer (we never collect this data). Furthermore, Foca only uses your camera while you are watching a video and turn Foca on. On most laptops you will be able to know when Foca is using your camera by monitoring the status of the LED next to the camera.

How Does Foca Work

Foca monitors your facial attentiveness using your computer's camera. Our algorithms can detect when you are losing attention. A couple examples include detecting when you are falling asleep or getting distracted by looking, lets say, at your phone. All of our algorithms run locally on your machine, and none of your data ever leaves your computer.

How Do I Turn On/Off Foca

If your video is supported you will see a small panel on the upper left corner of the video, which displays a number. Hover over that panel and you will see a button allowing you to toggle Foca on and off.

What Websites Does Foca Work On
